Mary Queen of Scots cost him his head and finally resulted in Mary's execution.  

Gilly Groom enjoys welcoming  bed and breakfast guests to her historic home at Dethick, a tiny unspoilt hamlet comprising just three farms and a church - the perfect place to unwind. Many say it's a place where time has  stood still, yet it is just 15 minutes from the M1,  and   only 2 miles from Matlock. Dethick lies within the curtilage  of the Derwent Valley World Heritage site at Cromford and is a short drive to the nearby towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne.

Matlock is at the gateway to the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District National Park,  an ideal touring base.  Chatsworth House, Hardwick Hall, Haddon Hall and many places of historical interest and other popular attractions are close by. Derbyshire is one of the country's  most visited destinations for walkers and ramblers, boasting miles of walking terrain to suit every level or ability. There are wonderful walks directly from the Manor Farmhouse in the  beautiful area surrounding Matlock, Riber, Cromford and beyond

Dining etc	A seven minute walk through our front field will take you to the local hostelry -The Jug and Glass, which was Florence Nightingale 's first hospital. Lots of other good pubs and restaurants within a few minutes drive. Matlock has Indian, Thai and Chinese restaurants.  Table reservations are recommended at weekends and other busy times
Local Facilities	Wonderful walks directly from the farm - no need to take the car. Painting and other art and craft courses, riding, pony trekking, fishing, golf, sailing - all can be arranged for guests. Cycle Hire available. Post Office & cashpoint in Holloway just half a mile away. Also, award winning butcher selling homemade cakes, local cheeses, deli etc. and Art Gallery with exhibitions and gifts.
